10th Assembly: Run for speaker, North Central christians urge Lady Onuh

Blessing Onuh

A group under the auspices of the Coalition of North Central Christians (CNCC), has called on Blessing Onuh, to run for the position of Speaker in the 10th National Assembly.

In a statement signed by its President, Rev. Bitrus Alih, North Central Christians said the lawmaker representing Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency, is the best candidate from the region to succeed Femi Gbajabiamila.

According to Alih, Onuh’s emergence will be groundbreaking for three reasons.

First, he said as a woman, it would end the noise about gender inequality in politics and enhance the reputation of the incoming administration in terms of women’s inclusion in governance.

Alih added that being a Christian, she will douse the tension among believers and end the fallacious Islamic agenda of the Tinubu administration.

He said as a native of Benue State, Onuh’s speakership will answer the question of the marginalisation of the North Central.

But more importantly, Alih said Onuh is competent, experienced and rugged for the job.

The Christian group said she has shown capacity and a knack for excellence in the legislature and during her time in the Federal Capital Development Authority.

Alih said very few returning parliamentarians match her rich resume and track record.

While urging Onuh to join the race for the speaker, the group called on her colleagues to accord her all the necessary support to emerge.
