Group urges duo to remember history, end impasse
The traditional institution in Yorubaland, represented by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, may have begun move to reconcile the National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola.
The duo parted ways recently over the governorship primary in Osun State in which the national leader supported the return of the incumbent governor, Gboyega Oyetola, while the minister and former governor of the state preferred his former SSG, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti.
Aregbesola, who could not contain his emotion, went public to disdain Tinubu, calling his former boss unprintable names and also invoked curses on him (Tinubu).
The monarchs, who were said to have been initiating peace move between the two friends, met Aregbesola in Ibadan yesterday to broker peace.
As gathered, the two highest ranking Yoruba monarchs met with Aregbesola in one of the private residences of the Alaafin in Ibadan, with a view to putting a close to the rift between two friends.
According to sources close to the palace, the reconciliation move is going on well and as intended, and both parties have shown interest in putting their differences behind them and moving ahead in the interest of all in Osun and Yorubaland.
However, a media aide to the minister, Sola Fasure, yesterday confirmed that the meeting took place without giving details.
The media office of the Alaafin, which also confirmed the meeting, said it was not in the meeting but promised to give the details later.
SIMILARLY, the League of South-West Civil Society and Community Based Organisation, led by Taiwo Adeleye and other four members of the group, has urged peace between Tinubu and Aregbesola.
It said that coming together for amicable settlement had become necessary for the sake and interest of Yoruba extraction they both represent.
The group, at a media briefing yesterday at Maryland, Lagos, on behalf of other 17 groups from South-West, including Network for South West Women (NENA), South-West Professionals Forum (SOWPROF), among others, expressed concern over the imbroglio.
Besides, the group said it would set up a committee to reconcile the two personalities, bearing in mind that the disagreement could be premised on certain principles upheld for decades by Aregbesola.
