The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) cannot merge and form a major political party in Rivers State, a chieftain of PDP, Leloonu Nwibubasa has declared
Nwibubasa’s reaction followed some political developments in the state where the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, stated that the alliance between PDP and APC in Rivers is a force nobody can challenge in 2027.
The former governor, who spoke recently during a thanksgiving ceremony by Barinada Mpigi, a federal lawmaker, in Koroma, Tai Local Council of the state, affirmed that the election will be easy for his camp, because of the alliance it has forged with other parties.
It should be recalled that the former governor, Wike, has maintained that he remains a member of the PDP, while most of his loyalists, especially the 26 lawmakers led by the Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, have defected to APC.
Reacting to the developments, yesterday, on a Port Harcourt-based radio station, Nwibubasa, a former Commissioner for Employment in the state and PDP chieftain, argued that one man cannot detect for the state, vowing that it is impossible for APC and PDP to merge as a political party in Rivers.
He said: “Whoever made such statements knows that he is no longer in PDP, and just out to destroy the party because he is losing followership.”
“Some people are in the party, but are working against the interest of the party. The day the FCT minister took up a battle against his party was the day he naturally lost his followership from the party.
“If you are loyal to a man who is serving in an APC government, works for APC and still working for APC, yet claims to be a member of PDP, that is the biggest controversy and the height of criminal hypocrisy, because claiming to be somewhere when you are not in that place is hypocrisy.”
Advising Wike, the PDP chieftain said: “If you want to belong to APC, show sincerity that you are dissatisfied with the PDP and declare your switch to APC. If you also want to belong to PDP, say it clearly that PDP is your party and show that you belong there. You cannot be neither here nor there, it doesn’t work that way.”
