Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar was in Katsina State yesterday where he met with ex-president Muhammadu Buhari at his private residence in Daura.
The former vice president stayed at Buhari’s residence for more than two hours and they were said to have discussed sundry issues.
He was accompanied by former Sokoto State governor, Senator Aminu Tambuwal and the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Umar Tsauri.
When asked the reason for the visit, Abubakar told journalists that he was at Buhari’s place to pay him Sallah homage.
He also visited the Emirs of Daura and Katsina, Alhaji Farouk Umar and Alhaji Abdulmumuni Usman respectively.
The former vice president’s visit to the emir of Katsina was to sympathise with him over the death of his son, Prince Abdallah, who died during the Sallah period.
He also paid a condolence visit to the family of the late former governor of old Kaduna State, Alhaji Lawal Kaita, whose wife, Hajiya Yelwa, died a few days ago.
In addition, the presidential candidate of the PDP in the 2023 elections visited the family house of the late president Umaru Musa Yar’Adua to see his aged mother, Hajiya Dada.
Abubakar, who came into the state through the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport, arrived in an airplane with registration number 5N-BXK at about 11:25am.
He was dressed in a light-brown kaftan with cap to match, and was accompanied by several people that included his aides and political associates.
Shortly after his arrival, he and several members of the PDP from within and outside the state left in a convoy for Daura to see both Buhari and the emir.
The Adamawa-state politician also briefly met with stakeholders of the PDP in the state.
The former vice president left the state around 4:45pm.
The visit comes barely three days after he visited former military heads of state, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar at their private residence in Minna, Niger State.
The visits have stirred speculation that the former presidential candidate is preparing ground to contest the 2027 presidential polls.
Atiku, who had contested in about five presidential polls or primaries in the country, had said he would continue to vie for the highest national position so long as he has the strength to do so.
