Ayra Starr’s ‘The Year I Turned 21’ Makes History on Spotify Nigeria

Ayra star announces new music

Afrobeat singer Ayra Starr has set a new Spotify record with her latest album, The Year I turned 21, with over 1.27 million streams on its first day, while closing in on Tyla’s record.

This made her the only female artist to have done so, on the streaming platform in Nigerian history.

Starr’s accomplishment doesn’t stop there. The Year I Turned 21 also claims the number two spot for all albums on Spotify Nigeria in 2024, falling just short of the top position held by Shakespopi, which debuted at 1.59 million streams earlier this year.

Meanwhile, She is also closing in on South African singer Tyla’s record on Spotify. She became the second-most streamed African artist on Spotify, reaching a record-breaking 31,103,217 monthly listeners.

This brings Ayra Starr closer to the coveted title of the most-streamed African artist on the platform, currently held by South African superstar Tyla, who boasts 31,966,907 monthly listeners (as of May 28, 2024).

With her current rise in the music industry and her albums reaching millions across the continent and beyond, the race for the African streaming crown is heating up.
