Coming from losing their opening group game in the football event to their final opponents, First Bank, the champions turned out stronger in subsequent games, winning all save for a draw against the former defending champions, UBA, on their way to a an outstanding performance en route the finals.
In a show of pure class, Fidelity Bank were run away leaders on the medals table with 10 gold medals, two silver and four bronze with First Bank trailing in second place with just three gold medals, two silver and three bronze. In third place was UBA with two gold and silver apiece.
The final day began with a novelty match between the Corporate Nigeria Games Hall of Fame team playing against the Nigeria Armed Forces Resettlement Center (NAFRC) side, which ended 1-0 in favour of the Hall of Famers, captained by Funlola Oni of Standard Chartered Bank.Â
Oni would then lead Standard Chartered Bank to demystify Skye Bank, five times winners of the football gold, in a third place match to win the bronze. And in the final game, striker, Victor Jideonwu of Fidelity Bank struck a brace, starting with a second minute goal and another on 36 minutes to beat First Bank 2-1.
