Bet Awards: Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, Tems, Seyi Vibez, Davido, Asake nominated

Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, Tems, Davido, Asake, Lojay, and Seyi Vibez have been nominated for this year’s BET Awards. Also nominated are South African music heavyweights, Tyla, Focalistic, and Tyler ICU.


Ayra Starr leads the Nigerian contingent with three nominations for Best New Artiste, Best African Act, and Best HER for her single, Comma; Burna Boy earned two nominations for Best RnB/Pop Act and Best Hip Hop Act just as Tems also earned two nominations for Best Video Director and Best Gospel/Inspirational Song for Me & U.

Davido and Lojay earned a nomination for the Viewers’ Choice Award courtesy of their appearance on Chris Brown’s Sensational. Asake also earned a nomination for Best International Act, while Seyi Vibez earned the nod for Viewers’ Choice Best International New Act.


In the film and television categories, Damson Idris and Ayo Edebiri have also emerged as nominees for Best Actor and Best Actress respectively.

Like Ayra Starr, Tyla shines bright with three nods in the Best New Artist, Best International Act and Viewers’ Choice categories with her worldwide chart-topper Water. Drake leads the nominations list with seven nods, while Nicki Minaj follows with six,

Drake’s nominations include Album of the Year for For All The Dogs (Scary Hours Edition), Best Male R&B/Pop Artist, Best Male Hip Hop Artiste, Best Collaboration with Sexyy Red and SZA for Rich Baby Daddy; Viewer’s Choice with Sexyy Red and SZA for Rich Baby Daddy, and twice for Video of the Year for First Person Shooter with J. Cole and Rich Baby Daddy with Sexyy Red and SZA.

This year’s nominees reflect an abundance of creative expression and black excellence across music, television, film, and sports. The nominees were selected by the BET Voting Academy, which is comprised of an esteemed group of entertainment professionals and influencers in the fields of music, media, digital marketing, sports journalism, public relations, and creative arts.
