Delta Queens draw Beninoise, Burkinabe, Ivoirien clubs as zonal qualifiers begin August 18

Nigerian champions, Delta Queens, will play in Group A of WAFU Zone B of the CAF Women Champions League, which begins in Benin City on August 18


Nigeria is hosting the WAFU Zone B qualifiers in the Edo city, with teams from Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Benin Republic, Ghana, Niger Republic and Togo vying to represent the zone in the CAF Women Champions League billed to hold in Cote d’Ivoire.

According to the draw held on Wednesday, Delta Queens will face Union Sportive of Burkina Faso, Athletico of Cote d’Ivoire and Sam Nelly of Benin Republic in Group A of the competition billed to end on August 31.

In Group B of the WAFU Zone B are Ampem Darkoa from Ghana, As Garde of Niger and Friend of the World, which represent Togo.

The draw for the CAF Women’s Champions League, Cote d’Ivoire qualifiers was officially held at the Mohammed VI Complex in Rabat, Morocco.

In the WAFU Zone A qualifiers, which will hold in Liberia from August 5 to 13, are Determine Girls of Liberia AS Mande, Dakar Sacre Coeur of Senegal and Sierra Leon’s Mogbewmo Queens.

Cote d’Ivoire will host the 2023 CAF Women Champions League later this year. The prestigious inter-club competition for women was first hosted by Egypt in 2021 with Morocco hosting last year’s edition.

The format will remain unchanged with the eight teams drawn into two groups. The top two in each group will progress to the semifinals, with the winner qualifying for the continental finals, where champions of the host country will join them.

Morocco’s AS Far are the defending champions, having clinched the crown on home soil, beating holders Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies.

Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens won the bronze medal.
