Don’t get provoked by attacks, Mutfwang tells Christians

Plateau State governor Caleb Mutfwang

Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, yesterday, thanked the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) and other Christian organisations that visited him at the Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos, over the Christmas Eve attacks in Bokkos Local Council, by walking in black attires to Government House.

The governor said that in the face of provocations, they had restrained themselves by not allowing themselves to lose their humanity, thanking them for keeping peace always.

He assured them that he had received their petitions, which he would forward to President Bola Tinubu for necessary action, adding that the President had assured him to end the circle of violence in the land.

Mutfwang told the people that he did not come to power as governor to preside over burial ceremonies.

“So, by the grace of God, we will move from the Book of Lamentation to the Book of Acts,” he added.

He disclosed that he would not sit back and watch the people slaughtered.
The governor said: “By the grace of God, we will do all that it takes to ensure that this carnage is stopped. We will do all that we can to ensure that our land is secure.

“By the grace of God, the blood the blood of the people that had been shed will not be in vain. It will continue to cry for justice, and by the grace of God, if we cannot bring this people to justice, we will bring justice to them.  We are not going to allow this to continue.”

He told his sobbing visitors that he did not come to power as a politician. “I have come that Plateau will rise again. And by the grace of God, we will not rest on our oars. I will go to see the President and transmit your demands, your apprehensions, your requests, your fears, and we are going to work together assiduously.”

ECWA President and Chairman, Denominational Leaders on the Plateau, Rev Stephen Panya, condemned the killings on the Plateau, saying enough is enough.

Panya had listed their demands for peace to reign in Plateau to include timely intervention in the provision of emergency relief in terms of food, water, toiletries, sleeping materials and other such necessities.

He added: “We appreciate the directive given by President Tinubu to relevant Federal Government agencies such to mobilise and provide succour to the victims. We also commend the great effort of Governor Mutfwang in not only condemning the attack outright, but also taking urgent concrete steps in providing food and other necessities to the displaced survivors.”
