Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has urged chairmanship and councillorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the forthcoming local council polls not to make frivolous promises to the electorate.

The governor made the call at a meeting with the party’s 20 chairmanship and 236 councillorship candidates at the Presidential Lodge, Abeokuta, yesterday.

Abiodun admonished them to stand by their promises and work towards leaving a legacy in their various local councils.

The governor, who stated that the meeting was held to officially flag off the election campaign, said the party went through tough time in choosing its representatives for the polls.

He added that special precaution was taken to ensure rancour-free primaries so as not to tear the party apart.
MEANWHILE, Abiodun as sued for peace over clashes that occurred at the weekend in Odeda Local Council of the state.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, the governor, also warned that the state government would not condone any act of lawlessness exhibited by individuals or group of persons to cause disunity in the state.

RELATEDLY, the leadership of APC in Arigbajo Ward, Ewekoro Local Council of the state, has appealed to the governor and other chieftains of the party to wade into the brewing imposition skirmishes before it dovetails into crisis.

In a petition to the state party chairman and the council’s caretaker committee chairman by their solicitor – Lekan Ojo & Associates, the party said the announcement of one Mr. Anisere as the councillorship candidate of the ward contrary to the majority candidate, Mr. Stephen Olumuyiwa Eleyowo, could spark crisis if not immediately addressed.

While noting that Anisere is currently serving as a legislative aide to the House of Representatives member representing Ifo/Ewekoro, Ibrahim Isiaka since 2015, the leaders said it would be just and equitable to allow Eleyowo who is not occupying any political position to enjoy the mandate given to him by the ward members.
