Nigerian Man Bags Two Honorary PhDs After Failing WASSCE 17 Times

Emmanuel Oluwasayomi Ahmadu, a Nigerian man, has defied the odds by earning not one, but two doctorates in the United States. This comes after facing repeated failures in his West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE ).


Ahmadu reportedly sat for the WASSCE examinations an astonishing 17 times before securing the necessary grades for university admission. Despite these setbacks, Ahmadu refused to give up on his dream of higher education.

His dedication paid off. Ahmadu eventually gained entry into the University of Benin. Here, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication. This academic success fueled his ambition, leading him to pursue postgraduate studies in the United States.

Emmanuel Ahmadu’s journey so far

Recalling his journey to academic excellence, he said, “I first gained international attention in 2018 as the International Award for Student Brand of the Year in West Africa while studying at the University of Benin (UNIBEN).”

“My story of resilience, having attended 16 primary schools and 14 secondary schools due to family instability, and sitting for O’level examinations 17 times over five years before passing, showcases unparalleled determination.”

Ahmadu’s perseverance has now been rewarded with two doctorates, a feat that would be impressive for anyone. However, considering his initial struggles, his accomplishments become even more extraordinary.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria, Emmanuel Ahmadu said, “Seek out growth opportunities, leverage available resources, and connect with mentors and supportive networks.”

“Remember, every setback is a setup for a greater comeback. Keep pushing forward, and your efforts will eventually yield success.” He advised.

“My story is a beacon of hope for youths facing similar challenges, inspiring them to rise above their circumstances and make meaningful impacts in their communities and beyond.”

Additionally, Global Seminary University in New York, USA, in partnership with GEPEA University in Portugal, has awarded Emmanuel Ahmadu an honorary Doctorate in International Affairs (DIA).

Furthermore, Ahmadu has been duly recognised as a Professional Doctoral Fellow by The Across Global Institute of Foreign Languages (AGIFL) for his exceptional leadership and notable achievements in mental health advocacy on a global scale.
