Experts urge teenagers to embrace tech skills for future opportunities

Experts in the field of technology have emphasised the need for parents and schools to equip children with tech skills and innovation as part of the demands of the 21st century.

They said that technology skills would in the coming years be in high demand in many workplaces, adding that those with the rightful skills will key into the evolving world of technology.

Lagos State Commissioner for Innovation, Science & Technology, Olatunbosun Alake, who advised the Biggest Future Innovators Tech Festival, organised by the Indepth Computers, said it is imperative to empower the young children, especially at the primary school stage, with the skills required to survive in the ever-changing world.


The event, held, yesterday, in Lagos State, witnessed children and teenagers showcasing their tech skills and innovation while the organisers dole out cash prizes and awards to the participants.

Alake, who promised that the state government would support the initiative, said: “In public schools, there have been additional topics in the curriculum. We now have graphics design being taught in secondary schools, as well as carpentry, plumbing and other practical skills that are required in the industry.”

In his remarks, Founder, Indepth Computers, Nathaniel Adoyi, stressed that technology education is key to children’s upbringing, adding that the future has changed with improvements in technology.

“Our goal is to empower children to showcase their creativity and innovative ideas and engage in discussions that contribute to advancing their technological education,” he remarked.

Chief Financial Officer, Wema Bank, Tunde Mabawonku, charged parents to keep encouraging their children to learn.
