Gunmen kill traditional ruler in Imo

Gunmen on Monday killed a traditional ruler in Imo state, Eze Nnamdi Mmirioma.

The late Eze of the Ezuhu na Amadi Autonomous Community in Abor Mbaise Local Government Area (LGA) of Imo was said to be receiving a guest identified as Chief Ignatius Nwaru when the attackers struck.

The incident was said to have occurred at about 3.00p.m on Monday as the gunmen allegedly invaded Mmirioma’s palace in Nguru Nweke and shot him severally.

The Imo state Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Barde, confirmed the incident, describing it as gruesome.

The Imo Police Command in a statement signed by the spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, however, said the reason for the dastardly act on the deceased was yet to be ascertained.


Although Okoye said that CP Barde noted that Eze Mmirioma died while receiving medical attention at Ndubuisi Hospital.

“The Commissioner of Police, Imo state, CP Mohammed Barde has condemned in totality the gruesome murder of Eze Mmirioma, a traditional ruler in Aboh Mbaise, who died while receiving treatment in the hospital after being shot severally in his house by gunmen.

“The Commissioner of Police has set up a high powered investigation into the incident to ensure that the perpetrators are arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law,” Okoye stated.

The incident has also thrown the community into palpable fear and panic, according to the Imo State police spokesman.
