As Oloriegbe Canvasses Health Insurance For Nigerians

The Healthcare Federation of Nigeria (HFN), yesterday, asked the Federal Government to strengthen the country’s health sectors.

This is as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe, canvassed for health insurance for all Nigerians.

Addressing participants at the Strategic Stakeholders Meeting on Draft National Policy on Incentivising the Health Service Industry and Healthcare Investments being championed by the Healthcare Federation of Nigeria (HFN) in Lagos, Oloriegbe stated that there was a need to make healthcare at both public and private hospitals accessible for all residents.

During the interactive session with the private medical practitioners, a representative of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Group of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (PMG-MAN), Uzoma Ezeoke, implored the government to remove the imposition of customs duty on imported pharmaceutical products on the brain drain in the health sector, the senator said:

“The government is doing everything to improve the working environment in terms of increasing salaries and we can’t just increase salaries of the doctors like that, what of nurses, pharmacists and other people that are working within the health sector.”

On her part, the HFN’s President, Dr Pamela Ajayi, urged the government to finance the health sector aside getting private health practitioners to be more included in government policy and programmes.
