The outcome of the election led to the burning of Akere auto parts market in Apapa, Lagos, on March 8, 2023. A security man at the market, who wanted to stop the arsonists, was reportedly murdered before the market was razed.
Denouncing the act, in a statement, yesterday, Ighodalo, who is also the Senior Pastor of Trinity House, sympathised with the victims of the tragic incident.
Ighodalo said: “This is a critical juncture in the history of Nigeria. We have a choice to either build this nation together with love for one another or destroy it with political innuendos and vile actions. Which would you choose? As responsible citizens, it is my prayer that we will choose love and be our brothers’ keepers, regardless of ethnicity, religion, creed or socio-economic status.”
He pleaded with Nigerians to refrain from rushing to judgment with speculations about the perpetrators and further fuelling the fire among political parties and their supporters.
The pastor urged Nigerians to be patient and allow the Lagos State Government to conclude its investigations.
To regain trust and demonstrate leadership accountability to the people, Ighodalo urged the Lagos government to act with urgency in conducting its investigation and publishing its findings.
