The Ilupeju Diamond Lions Club district 404B2 has donated medical equipment to the Pediatric Oncology Unit of Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), and also a modern toilet facility and borehole to Ilupeju Junior Grammar School, as part of the club’s 2021 yearly core project.
Speaking during the presentation and commissioning of the projects, the President of Ilupeju Diamond Lions Club, Lion Adesola Falaye said the gesture was part of the club’s yearly project to provide humanitarian needs to the community.
“Lions around the world are always answering the call to service. Yearly, the Lions club embarks on a core project, which always based on people’s needs in the society. We recognised a need at the Pediatric Oncology Unit and we decided that one of our core projects this year would be based on Pediatric cancer and we have provided medical supplies that are needed to the center.”
She noted that the club was able to identify the needs of the center, while interacting with the wards management, where it was discovered that more medical equipment is needed in the unit.
“We realised that the unit need more equipment to stablised the children in the ward. We are happy we are able to contribute our own quota towards the development of the ward. And we look forward for more beneficial relationship and above all, whatever we do, we do it for God. May God accept our gesture of service,” she said.
Falaye added that the club has also renovated the Ilupeju Junior Grammar School toilet to modern standard and also provided a borehole for the school.
” When we realised that Ilupeju Junior Secondary School lacked water and modern toilet facilities, the club took it upon themselves to provide the facility for the students. While accessing the students’ needs during a discussion with their teachers, we realised that we need to give the students a sense of dignity.
“We felt that by providing these facilities to the students it will boost their morale. We believe if we build them modern toilets, it would go a long way in improving their concentration in class because when students are uncomfortable they will never concentrate in class. With a modernised toilet in a hygienic environment they will be comfortable and infection will be at minimal among the students. The borehole will serve the toilet and school with water.”
The District Governor, Dr. Ademola Adesoye said the branch gesture is worthy of emulation, as it will impact the people of the community positively.
He urged the beneficiaries of the project to maintain the standard at which the project was put in place.
The Consultant Pediatrician Oncology (Childhood cancer and blood disorders) LUTH, who commended the club, said the equipment would go a long way in ensuring smooth running of the ward.
The Director Schools Admin, Education District Six, Ikumapayin Omolola, who represented District six tutor General, Oludare Okelola during the commissioning of the borehole and toilet facilities commended the club for sowing into the education sector by providing some of the items needed for smooth running of school activities. She urged the students and teachers to maintain the facilities provided.
