My life as skits maker, content creator – Funnychef

Ben Oyas Perekpo popular known as Funnychef has shared his testament as a skits maker and a content creator. In a recent interview, the Bayelsa State indigene chronicled his life’s journey, touching on various influences that motivated and shaped his life.

According to him, began his foray into the world of entertainment as a producer, actor and director of photography as far back as 2011 but his career took flight professionally in 2014.

Funnychef revealed that he had always been fascinated by the make-believe world and dreamed that he would one day find his feet on the landscape, specifically in the comic realm as believed he had the comic DNA ingrained in him from birth. While growing up, he got attached to some Nollywood characters, whose footsteps he wanted to follow.

“I grew up watching Nollywood movies, most especially comedies featuring the lMovies, the late Sam Loco Efe , Victor Osuagwu and Charles Inojie. As an entertainer if you don’t have money to follow up with the business you would fall out when others are still moving. So, my friends and I came up with the idea of having our own team with the name Sirbalo Comedy,” he narrated

“Honestly speaking,, we started shooting our skits with blackberry phones because we didn’t have money for cameras but the rest, as they say, is now history,” he added

Funnychef who is the first child in a family of six is particularly grateful to the Sirbalo Comedy Group as he has been able to fulfill his childhood dream and seemingly on the right path to carve a niche for himself as an outstanding comic character. Yet beyond the apparent fame and fortune, he secret wishes he isn’t as popular as he is. Why?

He says, ” Life before being a content creator was so easy , no attention from the public but now I can’t live my life anymore. Going out in public has been tasking and demanding. I find it difficult to move around without getting attention.”

Perhaps, the fame may be telling on him, but apparently, not the fortune as he admits he is smiling to the bank and loving it.

“One can make a huge financial fortune from creating skits , but my personal take on that is before one can get to that level or point , the skit maker would need to be consistent and creative. No doubt, there is money in this business but it takes time, creativity and hard work.

Funnychef is a Bayelsa man but schooled in Burutu in Delta State where he had his primary and secondary education.
