NCC puts telecoms sector contributions to GDP at 13.5%

The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has said that the telecommunication sector has continued to impact the nation’s economy, as its contributions to the gross domestic product (GDP) stood at 13.5 per cent in 2023.

The NCC also explained that it has introduced more reforms to drive the growth and development of the industry in Nigeria.


Speaking at the NCC Special Day at the 45th Kaduna International Trade Fair organised by the Kaduna Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KADCCIMA), yesterday, the NCC Executive Vice Chairman, Dr Aminu Maida, said: “It may interest you to know that as of 2023, the telecoms industry’s contribution to the nation’s GDP stood at 13.5 per cent.

“As we promote economic growth through the development of local content, we must also address the challenges faced by consumers and NCC is committed to protecting their rights while ensuring their satisfaction.”

Maida explained that as the NCC takes steps to develop the telecoms sector further “we, therefore, encourage businesses and service providers to prioritise customer satisfaction and uphold the highest standards of service delivery”.

The NCC boss, who was represented by the Director of Public Affairs, Reuben Muoka, explained that already “we have established a robust regulatory framework that promotes transparency, quality of service, and fair competition”, in the industry, while channels for consumer redress, ensuring that consumer, can resolve disputes in a timely and efficient manner have been put in place.
