Niger police arrest two kidnappers, recover N2.1 million, others


The Niger State Police Command in collaboration with a vigilante group have arrested two suspected kidnappers in Gurara local council of the state.

The Command said the arrest was based on intelligence received on January 27, 2023, that two male adults were sighted lurking around Lambata-Bonu road.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Lambata, mobilised a tactical team with local vigilante members to the area and arrested two adults: Isyaku Danruwa Abdullahi, 18-year-old and Muhammadu Sani Yakubu, 21-old- year.

The Command explained that during interrogation, the two suspects confessed to be among the kidnap syndicates terrorising Gwagwalada, FCT, Abuja, Lambata/Kafin Koro area in Niger State. It added that three handsets were recovered from the suspects and a sum of N2.1 million collected as ransom for the release of two victims earlier abducted at Gwagwalada.

“The suspects also confessed that the kidnapped victims were kept in Gwalo forest. The DPO Lambata mobilised the tactical teams, who combed the Gwalo forest in between Lambata and Kafin Koro areas and in the process the team had gun battle with the abductors in the forest, while the kidnappers escaped and abandoned seven victims; six males and one female,” the statement said.

It added that the victims were rescued unhurt and have been reunited with their families.
