Nigerian Idol S9: Emotional farewell as Jennifer disembarks

Nigerian Idol S9

The journey to the finale continued last Sunday with an unexpected eviction as fans had to say a sad goodbye to the lively and energetic Jennifer Igomu, whose performance for the last time on the Nigerian Idol stage left fans heartbroken.

According to Omawumi, Jennifer was one of the best vocalists on the show, and her eviction served as an eye-opener on the importance for viewers and fans to vote for their favourite contestant to keep them on the show, as the judges no longer have the final say.

The contestants performed songs from Africa by A-list African artistes, and all of them delivered outstanding performances. Gracia opened the live night show with her rendition of Miriam Makeba’s Pata Pata, earning positive comments from the judges. Her performance was a prelude to the outstanding performances to come.

Jennifer may have left Nigerian Idol Season 9 early, but her spirit remains high! She wowed the judges and the audience with her rendition of Asake’s Lonely at the Top.

In an exit interview, Jennifer reflected on her journey, the lessons learned, and the exciting music she plans for the future. “Yes, I just disembarked on the Nigerian Idol Season 9. It still feels like a dream but in all these I feel grateful because I have a platform that most singers would kill to have. I left soon but it’s not the end of the world,” she said.

“My journey on the Nigerian Idol Season 9 has been phenomenal. It has been a process of growth, it’s been mind-blowing. I have learned, unlearned and relearned a lot of things. I’m so grateful for all of the things I have learnt. I think I left this early because there was not much of a campaign or people felt like I sang so beautifully and nothing would happen easily, and they relent.

‘So my advice to aspiring singers who will come on his show is…as you dey sing your life for mic, dey tell your people back make una dey push me, push me, push me; make una no relent. Keep pushing, it’s not about how you sing; it’s about those rooting for you,” Jennifer added.
