Chief George Moghalu

In a bid to alleviate sufferings of 2022 flood victims in Anambra Sate, the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has donated food items worth millions of naira to state Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) for distribution to victims.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NIWA, Dr. George Moghalu, who handed over the items through the General Manager, Special Duties, Mohammed Dangana, yesterday, in Awka, described the gesture as the agency’s way of assisting flood victims in the country.

The items included over 200 bags of rice, 200 bags of beans, 200 cartons of noodles and 200 gallons of vegetable oil. A cheque of N5 million was also given to SEMA for the victims.

Dangaba, who was accompanied by Acting Area Manager, Onitsha Area Office, NIWA, Tolufashe Bamidele, and Onitsha Port Manager, Martin Osazuwa, among other NIWA officials, said that the agency has also made similar donations to nine other states, including Delta, Rivers, Bayelsa, Kogi, Niger, Benue and Jigawa states.

Dangaba said: “NIWA brings succour at the time of need to people, and it has done it in nine states. This is for Anambra State; it is for the 2022 flood victims. It would have come earlier than now, but procedures for procurement and other processes delayed it.”
