NYSC act obsolete, 10th N’Assembly will review it, says lawmaker-elect

NYSC

House of Representatives Member-elect for Gada/Goronyo Federal Constituency, Bashir Usman Gorau, has said he would ensure that the 10th National Assembly review the National Youth Serve Corps (NYSC) Act.

He argued that the scheme as presently constituted has not helped in ameliorating the sufferings of graduates despite billions of naira spent.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Gorau, pledged to justify his electoral victory by entrenching good governance in his constituency.

Vowing to push for the review of the NYSC act, he said lawmakers would ensure that Nigerians get value for every Kobo spent in the next administration.

He said: “They have voted for me as a member representing Gada/Goronyo federal constituency which I have been doing, constructing hospitals, renovating roads, schools and assisting the venerable people

“It has been my activity and will continue to build up and nothing will stop us from doing that

We can possibly push forward to see the progress of Nigerian youths across the country.

“This NYSC Act, I have it in mind that when I am finally sworn into the national assembly, I will make sure that we will have a review to that Act because a lot of money is being spent and that money does not impact the lives of Nigerian youths.

“We are going to push for the review of that Act and to make that the resources spent there are adequately utilized to Nigerian youth and more importantly as a young person, I have a very strong passion for sport and youth empowerment.

“If you look at it critically, government activity and government programs Nigerian youths are being neglected.”

He claimed that the almost 8 years of President Mohammadu Buhari’s government, not much had been achieved in terms of youth empowerment.

“We need to look into it even if it warrants appealing to the President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu we are going to do that and make sure that empowerment of Nigerian youths is put in place,” he said.
