Following the hue and cry over the poor state of roads across Edo State, the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, yesterday, said that the Governor Godwin Obaseki administration has embarked on rehabilitation and construction of 565 roads, stretching over 737 km across the state.

This was contained in a statement, which was made available to newsmen in Benin City, entitled, ‘Our roads: Governor Obaseki makes bold statement with roads across Edo State. ’

Nehikhare, a staunch Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member, said that interventions on roads will speak for the governor in the countdown to the governorship election.

He added that some of the failed roads, apparently belonging to the state government, which are undergoing rehabilitation works, as well as completed ones, are ready for use in the three senatorial districts of Edo South, Central and North.

Some of the roads rehabilitated and constructed in Benin metropolis, according to the Commissioner, are Ekosodin and adjoining streets, Abudu township roads and Benin Technical college road, among others.

He said: “The rehabilitation and construction of 565 roads, stretching over 737 km across the state by the Godwin Obaseki administration, has been described as a bold statement and testimonial that will speak for the governor.”
