Obaseki, Shaibu top players’ list at Prince Aghatise Erediauwa Captain’s Day/Retirement tourney

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, his deputy, Philip Shaibu and other top government officials are among the 180 players expected to participate in the Prince Aghatise Erediauwa Captain’s Day/Retirement Tournament billed to hold today and tomorrow at the Benin Club Golf Section (BCGS).

The Captain’s Day tournament is organised by Aghatise to signal his exit as the captain of the club, while his friends and the club are organising the Retirement contest in his honour.

Speaking on the tournament, BCGS Captain, Mayer Ologbosere disclosed that all the necessary arrangements have been perfected, adding that golfers have signified their interest to feature in the event.


Ologbosere added that many dignitaries, including Obaseki, Shuaibu, management staff of Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), and many others would participate in the competition.

According to him, the tournament will tee-off by 6.30 a.m., while the cocktail and dinner will hold later in the evening.

“The ceremonial tee-off is on Saturday morning and it will be done by Governor Obaseki.

“Golfers will feature in various categories such as men’s and ladies category, men’s and ladies veteran and super veteran cadre and guest golfers. Also, befitting trophies and other prizes will be won by those who distinguished themselves at the end of the event.

“The tournament is being packaged as part of activities to signal the handing over of the Captain’s baton to the new captain as well as celebrating his retirement from service to the nation.

“Golfers are coming from UBTH Golf Club, Benin City; Ogunnu Golf Resort, Warri; Ibori Golf and Country Club (IGCC), Asaba; Port-Harcourt Golf Club; IBB Golf and Country Club, Abuja; Ikoyi Golf Club, Lagos; Ikeja Country Club; Tiger Golf Club, Ibadan; Jos, Enugu and Calabar, among others.”
