Ogun to allocate 200 housing units to subscribers in Kobape

Says scheme not for profit

Ogun State Government has said that it would from Monday, next week, begin allocation of 200 housing units to subscribers of the Kobape Phase III Housing Scheme.

The state’s Commissioner for Housing, Jamiu Akande Omoniyi, disclosed this, yesterday, during a media briefing.

The commissioner added that the housing policy of the Dapo Abiodun-led administration was not for profit making, but rather as a social service to the people of the state and those in Diaspora that desire to live and work in the state.

Omoniyi, while putting to rest the controversies surrounding the allocation process, said that out of the 200 subscribers, 110 would get their allocation letters on Monday based on first come, first serve basis.

He, therefore, urged the subscribers to look out for their names, even as he noted that 36 others who defaulted would have their deposits refunded to them.

The commissioner, who also noted that the 54 remaining subscribers would get their allocations in the next batch, as their files are currently being scrutinised.

He further explained that three estates at Sagamu, Ijebu-Ode and Ilaro with combined 500 housing units would be commissioned soon as works have been completed on them, as the houses are currently being painted.

Also, the state government has said that the Ibrara Housing regeneration is not meant for the highest bidders, noting that the scheme is about 40 per cent discount to what the current market value is.

The commissioner, who disclosed this, yesterday, in Abeokuta, said the housing scheme would be for anyone who could afford it.

He said that the governor’s decision on the regeneration of Ibara GRA is to turn a decaying asset into something tangible, noting that previous administrations also made efforts to lay their hand on Ibara regeneration but they lacked one thing or the other.

Omoniyi warned that subscribers of the housing scheme that fail to take physical possession of the allocated housing units within 60 days would forfeit them.
