The Association of Registrars of Nigerian Universities (ARNU) has urged the Federal Government to reconstitute the governing councils of public universities in the country dissolved by President Bola Tinubu shortly after assuming office.
Rising from their two-day meeting in Abuja, the registrars also urged universities to organise regular retreats for principal officers, council members and staff upon their appointments to various positions.
In the communique jointly signed by ARNU chairman, Ife Oluwole, and public relations officer, Yakubu Ayuba, the group lamented that public universities have not been able to function optimally in the last one year following the dissolution of councils and non- non-constitution of new ones. The association noted that non-interference with the law establishing universities would go a long way in ensuring harmony in the university system.
