State intensifies second COVID-19 vaccination, insists on compliance with safety guidelines
Representative of Ovia Federal Constituency of Edo State in the House of Representatives, Dennis Idahosa, yesterday, disclosed that plans were underway to restore electricity supply to over 70 communities in the area.
The lawmaker, who expressed delight at the approval of his proposal to the Nigerian Petroleum Development Commission (NPDC), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), said the electrification project would be beneficial to over 100, 000 families in the communities.
Idahosa, who stated this while giving his mid-term report to members of the constituency, restated his determination to fulfill his electoral campaign promises.
He also expressed appreciation to his constituents for entrusting him with their mandate, adding: “During my electioneering campaign, I went to Ogede and Oduna wards which comprise over 70 communities.
“I was shocked to discover that the communities have been in darkness for five years. I was compelled to do all it took to restore electricity to the area and the good news is that I have been able to get NPDC to begin the process of restoring electricity to the affected communities and the project has been awarded.”
He pointed out that Gelegele, Igbine, Urokpokpo and Ukoro, among other communities, would benefit from the project.
MEANWHILE, the Edo State Government has intensified vaccination of eligible persons with the second dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine, as part of efforts to contain the pandemic and ensure safety of citizens.
COVID-19 Incident Manager, Dr. Andrew Obi, who disclosed this in Benin City, said the second dose of the vaccination exercise was currently ongoing in several fixed and temporary posts across the state to ensure that all eligible persons get vaccinated.
Obi said the second dose vaccination exercise, which commenced on June 1, 2021 would last for 40 days, urging those who took the first dose to take the second dose meant to provide full protection against the virus.
While decrying the poor compliance with safety guidelines, he urged residents to support the government in its efforts to curb the spread of the virus and conquer the pandemic.
He, however, reassured that the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led administration remained committed to containing the pandemic and would continue to deploy resources to check the spread of the pandemic and protect residents across the state.
