Senator Aduda promises lifeline for FCT basketball players

Senator Philip Aduda has promised to support basketballers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, in their quest for stardom and better fortune in the game.

Speaking at the just-concluded Mark D’Ball Basketball Championship in Abuja, Aduda, one of the guests, said he would partner with the organisers of the competition to improve the lots of the players in the FCT and country generally.

“There is the need to sustain this championship and develop the game in the FCT. Sustainability is key in the development of the game,” Aduda said.

At the end of the competition, Nigeria Customs Ladies won the tournament by beating First Bank of Lagos 54-49. The final of the championships attracted huge crowd, who were also entertained by some of the country’s A-list artistes.

The carnival-like championship featured such acts as Tubaba Idibia, Daddy Showkey, MC Smart, Pastor Nicodemus and Chucks D General, among others.

Speaking on the championship, the initiator, Igoche Mark, said the organisers, New Face of Basketball Movement, want to revamp domestic basketball in Nigeria.

“We’re working hard to ensure that the slam and dunk game does not remain docile again.

“The time has come for all credible stakeholders to join hands with me to grow the domestic game. Very soon, we will gather the players together for another top basketball championship like the European Basketball League, and the American NBA,” he said.
