Speaking, yesterday, at the interdenominational thanksgiving service to mark the 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day themed, “I Will Heal Their Land” at The Chapel of Christ The Light, Alausa, Ikeja, Sanwo-Olu maintained that it will take collective efforts of Nigerians – both the leaders and followers – through listening to God’s instructions and abiding by them for God to heal Nigeria of its many challenges.
The governor enjoined Nigerians to see themselves as leaders and exhibit leadership wherever they find themselves with a view to enthroning a country that works for all.
Sanwo-Olu promised that the state government will continue to play its role and cherish the sacrifices and commitment of the fallen heroes and heroines that paid the supreme price for the nation’s corporate existence.
He said his administration would sustain the tradition of ensuring a cordial relationship between government, the people and the Armed Forces.
The Commissioner for Home Affairs, Prince Anofiu Elegushi and State Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Stephen Adegbite, implored the Armed Forces to be courageous in the face of pervasive insecurity in the land.
The guest preacher and Executive Secretary, Lagos Anglican Schools Management Board, Venerable Victor Olusa, said with the numerous challenges besetting Nigeria, there is a need for reorientation of values among the citizens.
He beseeched God to heal the nation and cause committed leaders to emerge.
Olusa regretted that the several development targets set by the country since independence have not been achieved.
The executive secretary noted that the theme was relevant to Nigeria’s situation, adding that people should endeavour to do the right thing reorientate selves, as “God is ready to heal Nigeria, particularly, Lagos State.”
Present at the event, which featured Bible readings, sermon, hymns, choir rendition, praise and worship, a minute silence for departed heroes and heroines, as well prayer for peace in Nigeria, were members of the State Executive Council (SEC), including the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, and representatives of the Nigerian Legion.
