tanker explosions

A tanker burst into flames along the Obiri-Ikwerre Flyover in Obio-Akpor Local Council of Rivers State, yesterday.

The incident occurred at about 9:30 a.m., when the tanker, believed to be carrying Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), overturned and exploded as it tried to navigate a roundabout.

Sources said the powerful explosion shattered windows in the area.
When The Guardian visited the scene, some firefighters were seen trying to put out the blaze as a large crowd gathered, watching.

Eyewitnesses said the driver escaped unhurt, moments before the explosion. No casualties were reported.

Security personnel were seen warding off scavengers who attempted to steal vehicle parts from the wreckage.

There was no official statement from the authorities at the time of filing this report.
The incident came barely one month after the tragic Eleme tanker inferno.
