Tension in Ondo council as chairman, deputy die in seven-day interval

Akure North Local Council of Ondo State has been thrown into a state of shock and tension as the council Chairman and Vice Chairman tragically passed away within seven days.

The demise of the two key officials has left the council and state in mourning.

The late Chairman of the Council, Bankole Ogbesetore, was said to have died after battling an undisclosed ailment for over a year.

Following the incident, the Acting Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, paid a condolence visit to residence of the late Chairman last week before the demise of the Vice Chairman, Anthony Adebusola, in the early hours of July 16, 2023.

The double loss of the council’s top officials has sent shockwaves through the council, with residents grappling with a mix of grief and sadness over the tragedy.

Before the demise of the chairman, his deputy, Anthony, who has been in acting capacity as head of the council, was said to have also battled an undisclosed illness.

One of the political leaders in the area and former Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Saka Yusuf Ogunleye, confirmed the development.

He said: “It is on a sad, painful and pathetic note that I am here again to announce the tragic death of our council vice chairman, Anthony Adebusola.

“This unfortunate death occurred yesterday during a brief illness. It is painful that we lost both our elected council chairman and his amiable and loyal vice chairman within one week.

“Like a bad movie, so sad a story, I urge you all to pray for us and family members the two deceased left behind.”

Also, Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Alex Kalejaiye, said: “The leader of the council will take over the government as acting chairman, pending the election of a substantive one.”
