Tinubu, Buhari, Olurode, others celebrate Akande at 85

President Bola Tinubu has celebrated his long-time confidant, Bisi Akande, on his 85th birthday.

Akande was the governor of Osun State from 1999 to 2003 and the first interim National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Tinubu extolled Akande’s principles of integrity, loyalty, truth and justice, recalling his exemplary leadership odyssey and selfless service to Nigeria.


In a statement by his Spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, the President said: “Baba was a principal actor in the founding of our great party, the All Progressives Congress.

Meanwhile, former President Muhammadu Buhari has described Akande as a wise man under whose watch the party made great strides.

In a message to the former Osun State governor on his 85th birthday, Buhari said he and the celebrant shared common positions on a number of political issues and others affecting the nation, saying “he is very wise man who laid solid foundation for the growth and development of our party.”

Also, the APC has felicitated with Akande on his birthday anniversary.

The party, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, noted that it owed a debt of gratitude to Akande for his invaluable contributions for his leadership and its historic electoral victory in the 2015 general elections.

IN the same vein, a former National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and a retired professor of Sociology at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Prof. Lai Olurode, has paid tributes to Akande as he turns 85 today.

In a statement, Olurode said that Akande belonged to Obafemi Awolowo’s political school of thought with the core values of being blunt and uncompromising.
