The University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) has vowed to regain its lost glory in 2021.
In a New Year message, yesterday, captioned: “2021: Welcome to Hope” delivered by the hospital’s management and endorsed by its Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof. Ikpeme Ikpeme, the hospital said: “We have always been the flagship health care provider in our catchment community. A fine generation of management and staff toiled tirelessly to give us that pride of place. Some are still with us. Others have been called to rest…
“Then we wobbled. As we wobbled, smaller providers stepped up in infrastructure and equipment to fill the void. Accompanying their “step up” move was a certain arrogance in their dealings with us.
“We are determined to take back every inch of territory; painstakingly, inch by inch until we return to our pre-eminent position in service delivery and care in our community of influence. It’s our drive, our promise and our commitment.
“In the first quarter of 2021, we hope the new 10-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU), molecular laboratory, Isolation Centre and renovated medical microbiology laboratory will come on stream. The laboratory has been handed over to the contractors.
“As our infrastructure are upgraded, we implore everyone to be the best they can possibly be while we support with training and motivation and reward as appropriate.”
“This change goes beyond the four walls of the Teaching Hospital. It affects our individual relationships and interactions with the external community too. May this be a year of renewed hope and many positive manifestations for us as individuals and community. God, our help in ages past, remains our hope in the years to come…”
