A United Kingdom-based Nigerian, Mr Adebanwo Idowu Fatai (a.ka Lagata), has refuted allegations of blackmail in a case relating to the late singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

Fatai, known for his advocacy in seeking justice for the late musician, also challenged his detractors to tender proof of any blackmail.

Refuting a publication, titled ‘Mohbad: investigate Lagata, others over alleged blackmail of Wunmi, group tells police’, Fatai said the libelous claim, written by Damilare Ibrahim, also known as King White, and others, accused him of blackmailing Mohbad’s widow, Wunmi Aloba.

He said he had never interacted with Wunmi Aloba, either online or offline, and had never spoken ill of her. “We challenge the accusers to present any evidence of blackmail. In fact, we have substantial evidence that King White has issued threats to sabotage my lifelong ambitions,” he said.

Fatai also addressed claims that he had fraudulently written a petition or misused legal services, saying: “On no occasion have I fraudulently written a petition or used the chamber of Mr Kayode Ajulo.”

“As a law-abiding citizen, I have consistently championed just causes and intend to continue advocacy. The defamatory actions against me will be addressed through legal channels in due time.”
