UNILORIN introduces ‘Lecturer of the Year’ award

UNIVERSITY of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has concluded plans to introduce ‘Lecturer of the Year’ award in each of its 16 faculties. The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof Olubunmi Omotesho, disclosed this while discussing contents of the school’s fifth Strategic Plan tagged, ‘Shuttling to the Space’, with staff of the university at a special consultative meeting in the institution’s main auditorium. 
  
Omotesho, who is the Chairman, Committee on the Strategic Plan, explained that the award is to encourage higher productivity among the academic. The former Director, Academic Planning of the university, said the award is essentially targeted at enabling the institution produce outstanding alumni, who would be able to compete with their peers across the world.
 
 According to him, the new award will not affect the existing ‘Merit Awards’ for deserving staff members of the various units of the university, usually conferred during convocation.

He also explained that other awards would also be institutionalised for different categories of stakeholders to stimulate the desire for greatness of the university.
  
Aside the award for outstanding lecturers and other categories of stakeholders, the don also informed staff that they would enjoy long service awards, particularly those who put in at least two decades.
  
The university will also introduce an Open Day for parents to get an insight into the all-round performances of their children and wards. Speaking at the event that attracted senior officials of the university, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Wahab Egbewole, encouraged staff to always play their roles effectively, for UNILORIN to witness qualitative growth that will catapult it to the best in the country, among the top 10 in Africa and one of the leading 500 in the world.
