Why I Switched Career To Singing – Tiwa Savage

Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has opened up about why she left acting for singing and hinted on a new album.

She revealed this in a recent interview with MTV Fresh Out Live, where she talked about her upcoming film ‘Water and Garri’

“I have always wanted to do acting. Acting was one of my first loves before music,” she opened up.

However, Tiwa’s journey took an unexpected turn when a romantic interest led her to another path.

The former backup singer revealed she was enticed by an individual who was always with musicians and that prompted her switch to music.

“I got into music because I had a crush on a guy and he was always around musicians, so I said ‘yeah, forget acting and just go into music,” she said.

Talking about her rise into music, she talks about people whom she has worked with as backup singers, mentioning names like George Micheal, Mary J Blige, Kelly Clarkson.

She revealed she was able to shadow them and understand it is like to work behind the scenes, watching them and also understanding how important fans are.

Tiwa Savage also teases new upcoming album, “The album is more of R&B than afrobeat, or a collection of both. I have a great collection of artists, but I can not reveal what it is yet.”
